Hello everyone we had to write about The Race to the Moon we had to read this very long paragraph then answer the questions.
A long time ago, two powerful countries—the United States and the Soviet Union(Russia)—wanted to show the world who was best at science and space travel. This challenge was called the Space Race. It happened during a time of tension called the Cold War.
The Space Race began in 1957 when the Soviet Union(Russia) launched Sputnik, the first satellite, into space. The United States was surprised and wanted to catch up. Both countries worked quickly to build better rockets and send people into space.
In 1961, a Soviet astronaut named Yuri Gagarin became the first human to go to space. This was a big win for the Soviet Union(Russia). But the United States didn’t give up. President John F. Kennedy made a big promise: the U.S. would send a person to the moon before the end of the 1960s.
After many tests and missions, the United States finally won the race to the moon. On July 20, 1969, astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon and said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” The whole world watched on television as he walked on the moon.
The Race to the Moon helped people learn more about space. It also showed how powerful countries can push each other to do amazing things.
